Speaking Biography

Growing up in the coastal forestry town of Aberdeen, Washington—often called the "Lumber Capital of the World" I never could have imagined this. I am honored to have the privilege of speaking on forestry, mass timber, and sustainability stages worldwide.

From giving a refreshing speech at the International Forest Business Conference in Poland, to leading social media seminars for military spouses in Germany, to presenting at major events like the Society of American Foresters (SAF) and the SWST conventions. Having traveled across countries to document sustainable forest management and mass timber practices, my goal has always been to bring a truly global perspective to my audiences.

I love discussing the history connecting timber towns to modern mass timber innovations, or teaching professionals how to use digital media to amplify their own stories, my mission is to be a voice for hardworking people. As a woman who has overcome significant adversity to bootstrap my business, I understand firsthand the importance of creating inclusive spaces where every forestry professional from the woods to the office, has a seat at the table.

From Timber Towns to Modern Mass Timber

About The Session:

For generations, timber towns grew around forests that provided jobs, essential materials, and a way of life. However, as those industries declined, many of these communities were left searching for new futures. Today, mass timber construction is bringing wood back into our cities in a powerful, innovative way. Building with wood is back and she wants to show you what we have in our community being built today!

In this engaging presentation, Candra Burns explores how modern wood buildings directly connect to the rich history of timber towns. Attendees will discover how this movement supports healthier forests and helps address climate change by actively storing carbon and reducing emissions. Through compelling stories, images, and real-world examples, "From Timber Towns to Modern Mass Timber" reveals the deep connections between forests, people, and buildings, showcasing how thoughtful wood use can shape a more resilient future.
